A Mesoscopic Viewpoint on Slurry Penetration and Pressure Transfer Mechanisms for Slurry Shield Tunneling

چکیده

The penetration characteristics of the slurry and support pressure transfer mechanisms are critical to tunnel face stability control during a mechanized excavation. In this paper, numerical calculations coupling computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with discrete element method (DEM) carried out simulate sand column tests considering different particle size ratios. reasonableness model is verified by comparing variation patterns soil permeability coefficients monitored in results existing laboratory tests. mesoscopic transport particles pores considered based on tests, while effects corresponding types evaluated. Three main basic infiltration observed due ratios over pore size. For first type, accumulated able form supporting filter cake. effective because significant drop generated both sides second cake an zone present. A dense filling network formed between zone. third type corresponds purely An impermeable cannot be formed, effect not obvious. development distance shows obvious time effect; farther distance, larger filtration loss, worse transformation pressure.

Slurry Reactor: Mass Transfer Considerations

The bioreduction of solid TNT by a Pseudomonas fluorescens strain was investigated in a stirred tank reactor. Experiments in which TNT beads were the only solids present indicated that the biodegradation mechanism is dissolution followed by degradation in bulk solution. Dissolution may limit the overall rate, in which case degradation can be enhanced through increased agitation. Since soil slur...

Drying and cracking mechanisms in a starch slurry.

Starch-water slurries are commonly used to study fracture dynamics. Drying starch cakes benefit from being simple, economical, and reproducible systems, and have been used to model desiccation fracture in soils, thin-film fracture in paint, and columnar joints in lava. In this paper, the physical properties of starch-water mixtures are studied, and used to interpret and develop a multiphase tra...

A Statistical Model for Slurry Thickening

Thickening is the first step in the design of sustainable (cost effective, environmentally friendly, and socially viable) tailings management solutions for surface deposition, mine backfilling, and sub-aqueous discharge. The high water content slurries are converted to materials with superior dewatering properties by adding long-chain synthetic polymers. Given the solid and liquid composition o...

Chromic Oxide Slurry

CP titanium was polished with a colloidal sitica suspension and chromic ox{de slurry under low and high pressures. The polisheti surfaces wer'e characterized by means of EI]MA and XPS. Irrespeetive of polishing pressure, colloidal silica suspension suecessfully created a mirror-Iike surface that was clean at EPMA level, However, XPS detected a small amount of silicon on the outermost surface. Biodegradation Modeling of Nitrophenolic Pollutant in a Slurry Bubble Reactor

Biodegradation kinetics of 4-nitrophenol (PNP) in aqueous solution by a gram negative soil bacterium, Ralstoniaeutropha was firstly studied in a small scale batch reactor. The degradation of PNP was evaluated at initial PNP concentrations ranging from 3 mg/L to 14 mg/L. The rate of PNP consumption by the bacterium culture was modeled using Monod and Contois kinetics in batch condition. PNP degr...
